Overview
Chimney Sheep is a highly efficient draught excluder, made from robust Herdwick sheep's wool. Purpose-built for open chimneys, it excels in preventing heat loss, reducing energy bills, and minimising wind noise. Draughts can be reduced by over 90% with a safe level of chimney ventilation being provided at all times. No ventilation gap is required due to the natural breathability and permeability of herdwick wool. It is a proven solution, delivering year-round advantages by retaining warmth in winter and by maintaining a cooler temperature in summer. As well as its sustainable materials, it safeguards homes from wildlife and debris, making it a vital addition for enhanced energy efficiency and comfort.
What it does
Chimney Sheep reduces draughts in a chimney by over 90%. Due to the natural breathability and permeability of Herdwick wool, there is no need for a ventilation gap when the draught excluder is installed.
How it works
Chimney sheep is inserted into the chimney using the recycled plastic handle. Once installed the safety dangle hangs down to provide a visual reminder that the Chimney Sheep must be removed before you light a fire.
Why we love it
Expertly crafted from durable and naturally breathable Herdwick sheep's wool, this draught excluder reduces chimney draughts and provides a safe level of ventilation at all times. This means any moisture related issues in the chimney can be avoided and you can save on your energy bills.
The handle and extension are made from recycled plastic. The handle is 15cm long and when the extension is used, the total length is 30cm. This makes the Chimney Sheep very easy to install and very easy to remove when you wish to set a fire.
The Ionic Protect® plasma-treated wool enhances durability. Many customers have reported using their Chimney Sheep for nearly ten years.
What size do I need
Select a Chimney Sheep slightly larger than the flue for a secure fit and effective sealing. The round Chimney Sheep is available in three sizes to suit most common circular flue sizes.

Installation Guide
Please ensure you have accurately measured the diameter of your chimney flue. This measurement is crucial for selecting the appropriate Chimney Sheep size. Opt for a size that slightly exceeds the flue opening to ensure a secure fit.
Installation
Attach the handle and if required the extender.
Insert the folded wool pad into the chimney flue and tug the handle to achieve a snug placement.
Don’t overlook attaching the provided decorative dangle, which serves as a visual reminder of the Chimney Sheep’s presence.
Gently pull down the Chimney Sheep by its handle.
Soot and debris can be removed by tapping onto the grate.
Store it away from the fireplace in a place that allows unobstructed ventilation. This step ensures safety and preserves the wool pad for long-term use.
