Overview

The Auro Clear Lacquer Matt 518 provides a transparent hard-wearing finish to your interior timber.  Commonly used on doors, architrave, skirting, wooden ceilings and furniture – not suitable for floors. It is quick drying, solvent free and dilutable with water.

Where to use it

Auro Clear Lacquer Matt 518 is an environmentally friendly varnish. It is suitable for interior wood and wood-based materials (Not for Floors). The varnish has a very low odour, quick drying and it’s solvent-free, it can be used on Children’s Toys and Cots without any harmful effects it is tested and certified as Safe for Toys and is Saliva- and perspiration-proof. The Auro varnish provides a hard-wearing film on top of the surface with a matt finish.

What it does

The clear wood lacquer provides a hard-wearing finish without the harsh chemicals of conventional varnishes. It gives a transparent finish with a slight honey tone.

Why we love it

It is easy to use and provides a hard-wearing film. It is dust dry after 2 hours and recoatable after 6 hours. It is certified as safe for toys (DIN EN 71 Part 3) and saliva and sweat proof (DIN 53160). This product is classified as VOC free. There is no need for a separate primer as this varnish can be applied to new timber by thinning out the 1st coat with 10% water.

How it works

The varnish creates a thin transparent layer on top of the surface so protects the wood from the outside. At least 2 thin coats are generally recommended. The product has a milky appearance, but it dries into a clear and transparent film.

It will be dust dry after 2 hours and it can be recoated after 6 hours, plenty of ventilation should be allowed during the drying period as high humidity, low temperatures, excessive application volumes and insufficient air supply will slow down drying rates. Final hardness is achieved after 4 weeks.

The product can be thinned with a maximum of 10% water if necessary

Hint and tips

If looking for a varnish that is more shinny the Auro Clear Lacquer Gloss 515 is the perfect choice and for floors the Auro Floor Varnish 267 is recommended.

Installation Guide

Priming: For timber which has not been painted or varnished before, priming can be done by thinning out the 1st coat of this product by 10% with water.

After priming 1 or 2 further coats should be applied giving a light sanding in between coats.

Renovation: The renovation process is very simple, a light sanding before reapplying the varnish is all that is needed before getting it looking like new again.

It is very easy to apply by brush, roller or by spraying. Coverage is up to 13sq/m per litre. We recommend leaving 6 hours in between coats. If painting over a previously painted surface, a light sanding would be desired, and it is good practice to test a small area before undertaking any large job for compatibility.

The tools should be cleaned with water and Auro Plant Soap 411 after use.
