Where to use it
Auro Clear Varnish Gloss 251 is an environmentally friendly varnish which contains only organic raw materials and minerals, it does not contain any harmful chemicals. It is suitable for interior wood and wood-based materials (Not for Floors). The varnish has a very low odour, it’s solvent-free, it can be used on Children’s Toys and Cots without any harmful effects it is tested and certified as Safe for Toys and is Saliva- and perspiration-proof. The Auro varnish provides a hard-wearing film on top of the surface with a gloss finish.
What it does
It provides a hard-wearing finish without the harsh chemicals of conventional varnishes. It gives a transparent finish with a slight honey tone.
Why we love it
The clear lacquer gloss is easy to use and provides a hard-wearing film. It is certified as safe for toys (DIN EN 71 Part 3) and saliva and sweat proof (DIN 53160). It is made from natural occurring materials and minerals.
How it works
The varnish creates a thin transparent layer on top of the surface so protects the wood from the outside. At least 2 thin coats are generally recommended. The product has a milky appearance, but it dries into a clear and transparent film.
It will be dust dry after 10 hours and it can be recoated after 24 hours, plenty of ventilation should be allowed during the drying period as high humidity, low temperatures, excessive application volumes and insufficient air supply will slow down drying rates. Final hardness is achieved after 4 weeks.
The product can be thinned with a maximum of 20% water if necessary
Hint and tips
This will give a beautiful shinny finish which is very hard wearing and meets the top standard in abrasion (class 1). If looking for a varnish that isn’t as shinny the Auro Clear Varnish 261 is the perfect choice and for floors the Auro Floor Varnish 267 is recommended.
Before applying this product, test the base for suitability by applying a sample coat.

Installation Guide
Priming: For timber which has not been painted or varnished before, priming can be done by using the Auro Hard Primer 127 or by thinning out the first coat of varnish with 20% water. Certain Wood types can cause tannin, discolouration and drying delays these should be primed with Auro Special Primer 117.
After priming 1 or 2 further coats should be applied giving a light sanding in between coats.
Renovation: The renovation process is very simple, a light sanding before reapplying the varnish is all that is needed before getting it looking like new again.
It is very easy to apply by brush, roller or by spraying. Coverage is up to 13sq/m per litre. We recommend leaving 24 hours in between coats. If painting over a previously painted surface, a light sanding would be desired, and it is good practice to test a small area before undertaking any large job for compatibility.
The tools should be cleaned with water and Auro Plant Soap 411 after use. If necessary Auro Orange Oil 191 can be used too.
