Overview
Contega Solido SL-D is an interior airtight tape designed for airtight sealing of window and door frames. It is meant to be stuck to the window or door frame before it is installed into the building. Contega Solido SL-D can be plastered over. When pre-applied to the frame, the tape will be stuck to the side of the frame (not the front) where it can’t be seen. This makes installation easier due to not needing to seal into a corner. Provided it is pre-applied as intended, the tape is never visible after the window or door is installed.
Where to use it
Contega Solido SL–D will stick to stable concrete, plaster, masonry, blockwork, bricks , timber, PVC or aluminium. Use it where the window and door sealing tape will be plastered over and when you will apply the tape to the windows and doors before they are fitted into the building (pre-installation).
What it does
Contega Solido SL-D is specifically designed for the airtight sealing of windows and doors. It will seal the gap between the window or door frame and the wall to ensure there will be no air leakage. Contega Solido SL–D has a fleecy top layer which is an excellent key for plaster to be applied over the top. The plaster applied to the interior side of the wall (covering the tape) completes the airtight seal for the window or door.
Why we love it
Pre-installing Contega Solido SL-D to the windows before they are installed makes the sealing of windows and doors neater and easier. With the other version of this tape - Contega Solido SL, the seal is made after the window or door is installed so up to 20mm of the tape will be stuck to the front surface of the frame. With Contega Solido SL-D and pre-installation, the installer has no tricky sealing into and around corners and the final finish/plaster on the wall can be any thickness because no tape needs to be hidden on the frame.
Contega Solido SL-D sealing tape is a perfect alternative to the common use of expanding foam around windows and doors. Foam, is a gap filler and not permanently airtight and may degrade after a period of time; Contega Solido SL-D is fully airtight and permanent.
Window and door openings are one of the main culprits for air leakage; the correct sealing of these openings will ensure your overall airtightness of the building will not be compromised.

Questions
How do I create an airtight seal around window straps?
Window straps can present a challenge in terms of airtightness and are a common cause of air leakage. There are three methods of overcoming this problem:
• Pre-fit an airtightness tape to the window before it’s installed. This way the tape will be behind the strap making it easier to seal directly to the block. This could be done by using Contega Solido SL-D, which features a double-sided tape.
• Install a plasterable airtightness tape, like Contega Solido SL, to the inner side of the window frame and bond it directly to the block. Apply an additional horizontal strip of Contega Soldio SL to cover the strap, bonding it back to the block, which in turn will make the connection airtight.
• Apply Aerosana Visconn Fibre liquid airtight membrane directly to the window frame edge, making sure to coat both the block and strap.

Installation Guide
Find an installerHow to install
Contega Solido SL-D tape must be applied before the window frame is fitted in to the building. Ensure the frame of the door/window is clean and free from dust and grease. Remove the release paper from the narrow strip of adhesive on the fleecy side of the tape. The exposed adhesive should be stuck on the side of the window/door frame. Positioned nearest the interior side of the frame. The tape must be parallel to the reveal not the glass.
Use a Pressfix Tool to make sure the tape is strongly bonded to the frame. When the window/door is installed in the building, make sure the reveal (where the tape will be stuck) is clean and free of dust. If the surface is crumbly or produces dust, use Tescon RP Primer or Tescon Sprimer to stabilise the surface and obtain the best permanent adhesion.
Remove the backing release paper gradually and firmly press the tape to the reveal with a Pressfix Tool. The full area contacting the reveal should have pressure applied to it to ensure a strong bond is made between the tape and the blockwork/concrete of the reveal.
If there is at least 60mm of depth to the reveal, in front of the installed window or doorframe, the installation will be simple and there will be no need for any cutting or special techniques at the corners.
Hints and tips
The use of Tescon RP Primer or Sprimer on the reveal is always recommended to ensure the surface is in an ideal condition for a perfect bond that will not be compromised.
